A year ago, I received a request from a bride-to-be, who had just one dream:
A wedding overlooking the Vesuvius.
Her Italian roots and the bond with her grandparents were the special details she wanted to include in her wedding day. She was looking for an Italian wedding planner who could help her find the venue of her dreams with such a special view.
I immediately started selecting the perfect wedding venue for this sweet couple from Ohio and after some different proposals, they chose a wonderful villa in Sorrento with a breathtaking view on the Vesuvius. The villa is family owned and also for them the bond with the family members is very strong.
What a perfect place for such an intimate wedding!
I had the pleasure to meet the bride and the Maid of Honor in Indianapolis at the very beginning of the wedding planning. This meant a lot to me. It gave me the chance to feel the bride and understand the kind of person she is: a very refined and classy girl, with a strong bond with her family. Believe it or not, the day after the wedding, we found out that her Italian side of the family and my husband's family are related. What a coincidence, right?
As she said, it was meant to be!
The wedding celebrations started one day before the big day with a fun tour in a lemon grove, followed by a typical homemade Limoncello and Limonata tasting.
We planned a perfect Italian style rehearsal dinner, with seafood starters, pizza tasting and a gelato cake in a nice restaurant by the sea overlooking the city of Sorrento. The weather that night was simply perfect, warm but with a nice breeze...
During these nine months of wedding planning, made of daily emails and chats, from a total blank beginning, together we have been able to explore and figure out what were the atmosphere and the colors they wanted to focus on for their destination wedding in Sorrento.
A casual but sophisticated wedding overlooking the sea with a discrete tribute to the Amalfi Coast and Greece, surrounded by lemons, lavender and greenery was what they started envisioning and what we created for their destination wedding.
Every detail, from the invitation suite to the floral decorations matched the color palette of their wedding.
The blue of the sea, some little casual details of the groom's family and the predominance of white furniture at the wedding venue, became a tribute to the groom's Greek origins.
Made it on purpose or not, even the terrace garden where the ceremony took place was surrounded by beautiful lilac Amaryllis.
After the wedding ceremony, the newlyweds had a quick Prosecco toast before immersing themselves into the picturesque little streets of Sorrento for a fun photo shoot.
Do you see the big gelato cone up there? Do you think they had one? I am pretty sure they did, but I also know this is not the only Italian experience the bride lived walking down the streets of Sorrento... A woman shake the sand off her beach towel from the window of her apartment, of course on the bride's head. We are all still laughing about it...
Welcome to Italy...
The Vesuvius was there, waiting for their kiss! And I am sure someone from the sky was cheering to their love...
While they were enjoying themselves and the beauty of the town for a few minutes, their guests were experiencing some Amalfi Coast music played by a fun Neapolitan singer as well as tasty Italian flavors such as fried mozzarella, arancini, caprese and a selection of cheese and jams.
Don't worry, we saved some for the bride and groom as well.
On the notes of "Funiculì Funiculà" the newlyweds made their grand entrance!
What a better way to thank their guests than a nice custom present from the Amalfi Coast? The escort cards tiles doubled as perfect wedding favors for their guests who traveled from allover the US to celebrate their wedding in Sorrento.
Each table was named after a city that has been part of their lives... We had cities from Greece, USA, and Italy, of course! We matched the lavender and yellow with the green of the villa.
The view from one of the terraces of the villa was simply amazing. The coastal cities lights and the Vesuvius offered a romantic atmosphere for a magical wedding dinner.
What do you think was the wedding cake filling? Lemon creme, of course! So delicious and refreshing...
The wedding celebrations ended the day after a fun night of music and dances, with a brunch at the villa. It has been so nice to spend these four days with such a fabulous family.
